Great American Road Trip | Group Exhibition

Great American Road Trip, a group exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of Route 66 and its historic landmarks and scenic destinations, features new works from Dennis Ziemienski, Miles Glynn, and guest artist Jennifer Johnson. Traversing eight states, the iconic “Mother Road” was originally commissioned as part of the nation’s first federal highway system and has sparked endless inspiration for our featured artists.

Dennis Ziemienski’s rich color palette and nostalgic subjects blend seamlessly with the spirit of adventure associated with the open road. The juxtaposition of the classic cowboy lifestyle with the influence of Modernism is a trademark of his expertly arranged compositions.  From the charm of rural, untouched America to classic kitschy stops and neon, his new works are an intimate exploration of roadside culture.

Miles Glynn’s new multimedia works include materials found along the original route in San Jon, New Mexico. The artist has spent a great deal of time exploring historic Route 66. During one of his trips, he came upon old receipt books in an abandoned service station. “I kept them, waiting for the opportunity to put them to good use in my artwork. With this show commemorating the anniversary, it seemed like a perfect time to give new life to these old items.”, Glynn said. His works also include ephemera and found items related to the golden age of travel.

Jennifer Johnson makes her debut with a new series of paintings that capture the charm of roadside stops and quirky attractions. Her figurative works have a playful feel, each one incorporating a dog with a tennis ball somewhere in the scene. Johnson’s award- winning art has been featured in national publications and permanent collections such as the famous Cowboy Bar in Jackson Hole and the Wort Hotel.

The works In Great American Road Trip capture the wonder of exploration, American car culture and the vast, scenic landscape across the US. The canvases seem to emphasize the journey over the destination and the allure of the unexpected, leaving viewers longing to hit the highway.
