“Variations, transparency and layering techniques all allow me to naturally generate the subtle inconsistencies in my paintings which make each piece unique and imperfect, like us.” -Kenneth Peloke
Standing Tall
Standing Tall features a variety of subjects for which Peloke has become known; his abstract cowboy figures, horses, and commanding wildlife including bison and moose. The title piece in his new body of work depicts a striking pair; an impressive bison standing with a small cowbird perched upon his back; their commensalistic relationship so easy and natural. Peloke’s works shine a light on the impressive stature of beautiful animals and their silent strength. “This body of work will include some of the original styles and techniques I used while first starting out in my art career…painting to mimic old and aged photos while finishing them with a high gloss resin”, Peloke says. “The materials contrast one another and lend a unique feel. I have used some bolder colors and new techniques as well to convey the feeling I want each piece to have.”
Born in 1978 in rural New York, Kenneth Peloke is the youngest of four children raised by a single mother. He began painting and drawing at the age of seven. Without access to proper art materials, Kenneth used crayons, pens, house paint, cardboard, the backside of scrap wallpaper, and even the walls in the house to sketch his drawings. He and his family moved to Arizona when Kenneth was nine. Private oil painting lessons and a trip to Sedona, Arizona, inspired Peloke to paint landscapes. Classes in figurative painting and drawing furthered his education and he felt like he was starting to find himself through his art. Pursuing graphic design, where he learned about photography, Photoshop and animation, proved beneficial when he later returned to fine art full time.
Through experimentation and self-teaching, he has learned to use all his past explorations and experiences now in his current work. Over the past several years, Kenneth has found inspiration by spending time with horses. His bold, large-scale pieces capture the pure essence of the horse while still challenging his artistic talents. His multimedia approach creates a depth and incredible realism to his pieces that give them a one-of-a-kind contemporary appeal.
Peloke has been featured in national publications including Western Art Collector, In Style, Luxe and Western Art & Architecture magazines. His work is displayed in both public and private installations throughout the world including China, Singapore, Australia, New York, Scottsdale, AZ, Jackson Hole, WY and Sun Valley, ID. He resides with his wife and two children in Scottsdale, Arizona.
