Lost and Found
“The enduring allure of the American cowboy and cowgirl is fascinating to me. From a visual standpoint, their looks are iconic and have appeal throughout the world. I also believe, on a deeper level, that they embody admirable traits that we can all aspire to such as work ethic, dedication, independence and self-reliance, problem solving, honed skills, and honoring one's word with a simple handshake. It's an endlessly exciting challenge for me to reinterpret these dynamics, which are so ubiquitous and familiar to us all, and to bring a fresh perspective while presenting them in a contemporary context.” – Miles Glynn
Miles Glynn brings his Lost Cowgirls and Lost Cowboys together in a cohesive exhibition for the first time, a series which has been over a year in the making. Glynn is known for his use of vintage imagery and layers of texture. Materials like hand-bent neon, historical documents and old oil barrels are all part of his unique artistic arsenal and have culminated in a signature style that reads as a visual time capsule. “The "found" aspect of the title is a bit of a play on words.”, Glynn says. “Within these mixed-media pieces I have incorporated many found items, most of them vintage and all of them unique. The lost and found wording can also refer to one's personal journey through life.” Glynn brings an exciting blend of history and modernity to life in his new exhibition, the works are at once familiar and curious, modern yet nostalgic.
His dynamic blend of old and new has placed Glynn at the forefront of the New West art movement, adding a welcome edge to the traditional and often romanticized iconography of the traditional genre. “As my career and work has evolved, I've placed more and more emphasis on visual communication to convey storytelling and narrative. I feel like the stories, emotions, and visual expression has broadened and become more complex as Western art has evolved from historic documentation into the vast reimagined versions of the region. There is boundless opportunity and room to explore fresh expressions of the West, which is very exciting for me to be a part of.”, notes Glynn.
Miles Glynn is a mixed media artist living and working in Montana. Growing up the son of a U.S. Army photojournalist taught him to see life in frames and compositions. It also sparked an affinity for creating intriguing imagery that tells compelling stories. Glynn’s work is included in fine art collections and exhibitions across the US and is featured in publications including Big Sky Journal, Fine Art Connoisseur and American Art Collector magazines.
