Once Upon a Highway
"Once Upon a Highway was inspired by the 100th anniversary of the historic highway U.S. Route 66. I like to imagine travelers along the old road stopping to take in the sights and capture special moments with their cameras.” -Scott Yelonek
For Scott Yelonek, art and travel go hand in hand. There is a sense of newness and discovery as the journey unfolds, whether on canvas or the open road. “Exploring new places continually inspires ideas for future paintings. While on the road, I enjoy visiting vintage and antique shops in search of old cameras and unique objects that often become the subjects of my work.”, Yelonek says. The work in Once Upon a Highway was inspired by the 100th Anniversary of the historic highway Route 66. In addition to vintage cameras, he has incorporated maps, old diner menus and other nostalgic roadside ephemera that evokes the magic of a road trip. ”In these paintings, I’ve tried to weave together those iconic elements of the highway—the scenery, the nostalgia, and the spirit of the journey.”, says Yelonek.
Scott Yelonek’s works are meticulously composed and gently hint at a narrative. His photo-realistic style allows him to capture subtle nuances and leave room for the viewer to fill in their own story. “Many of the objects I choose to paint have a sense of history and character that I find compelling. I also determine what works together in terms of scale, contrast and color. Gradually, I build up the detail layer by layer until the painting feels complete.”, Yelonek explains.
Scott Yelonek is an award-winning artist who has exhibited widely in both oil and watercolor.
