After a long Arizona summer, Altamira Fine Art is pleased to welcome Scottsdale’s Fall season featuring some incredible fresh talent. Throughout the summer, our gallery has made great strides towards continued growth and innovation.
Along with once again representing the estate of John Nieto, we have acquired a selection of new western contemporary artists who will present with us in Scottsdale this season alongside our legendary long-standing artists. Expanding our artist roster provides an exciting start for the season. With a full exhibition schedule from November onward, we don’t want you to miss out!
Here is a glimpse into our upcoming event schedule for the rest of the year, along with additional information about our featured artists.
JOHN NIETO
Exhibition: November 5-16, 2024 | Reception on the 7th, 7-9 pm.
Altamira Fine Art is excited to once again represent the work of John Nieto (1936-2018), the Native American and Hispanic artist who is widely regarded as one of America's most accomplished, dynamic and exciting contemporary artists.
John Nieto was born in 1936 in Denver, Colorado. He was deeply impacted by his grandmother, Maria Gonzales, who exposed him to and taught him about his Native American ancestry in New Mexico, which can be traced back over three hundred years.
Nieto's distinctive style, combination of subject matter, expressionist technique, and use of strong color is instantly recognizable and collectors throughout the United States and abroad prize his work.
The John Nieto exhibition will take place from November 5th through the 16th, with a reception on Thursday, November 7, 7-9 pm, coinciding with the Scottsdale Art Walk.
MILES GLYNN
Exhibition: December 3-14, 2024 | Reception on the 5th, 7-9 pm
Miles Glynn, one of our newest artists at Altamira Fine Art, is living and working in the American West. He grew up the son of a U.S. Army photojournalist & this experience taught him to see life in frames & compositions. It sparked an affinity for creating intriguing imagery that tells compelling stories.
The common thread throughout Glynn’s work is that of presenting images and themes from our past with renewed intrigue and relevance. Glynn’s mixed media works are at once familiar and curious, modern yet nostalgic.
“I continue to look at things while trying to find ways to put them into a work. I’m always ready to be receptive to things that stand out to me, but also keep in mind that the images are still the core of telling stories.”
Miles Glynn’s exhibition will take place from December 3rd through the 15th, with a reception on Thursday, December 5th from 7-9 pm, coinciding with the Scottsdale Art Walk.
MICHAEL BLESSING
Exhibition: December 10-21, 2024 | Reception on the 12th, 7-9 pm
Michael Blessing, one of our newest artists, spent his formative years in the rural American West, surrounded by the land, the people, and the experiences typical of that iconic time in mid last century America. These experiences instilled in him a strong sense of identity, an ability to innovate, and the hearty independence inherent in a pioneering spirit.
He is known for his Neon West Electric works: a series of larger-than-life characters painted in a contemporary style that incorporates the vibrant color and contrasting light of LED neon technology as a sculptural element.
The mythology of the American West centers around archetypal storytelling. The thematic threads of redemption, freedom, and light overtaking darkness compel Blessing’s selection of subject matter and design, presenting the viewer with a modern visual version of an age-old story.
Michael Blessing’s exhibition will take place from December 3rd through the 15th, with a reception on Thursday, December 5th from 7-9 pm, coinciding with the Scottsdale Art Walk and the Holiday Art Market.
When we approach the New Year, our back-to-back shows are sure to wow Scottsdale’s Winter season! Visit our Collections page to view exhibition work by each artist, and sign up for our newsletter for show updates. We can’t wait to see you in Scottsdale!
