“One thing that never gets old in the creative process is the joy that follows the frustration and difficulty. This is often directly related to the investment and work going into the challenge.” – Robert Moore
Robert Moore paints with a sense of urgency and reverence, capturing the Western landscape at its most alive. His bold, impasto technique, built from decades of mastery, transforms stands of aspens, meadows, and canyons into living symphonies of color and texture. Every stroke feels intentional, an imprint of light, season, and emotion layered into the surface of the canvas. “My creative process when painting for a new show usually stems from a ‘process of discovery’. I find a way to generate exciting relationships of color or texture. I then seek to apply these discoveries to a variety of subject matter.”, says Moore.
What sets Robert apart is his ability to balance structure with spontaneity. His surfaces vibrate with energy, as if the landscape itself is expanding outward. Robert doesn’t just depict nature he immerses the viewer in it, inviting us to feel the temperature of the air, the hum of the forest, the shifting brilliance of the seasons. All the rhythms of a changing landscape and everyday life seep into his work. “One obvious parallel I see with painting and life in general is the principle of seed time and harvest. It seems to apply to anything of real value. Whatever a person sows is what he will reap, good or bad, right or wrong, fullness or emptiness.”, Moore says.
In many ways, Robert embodies the heart of the New West landscape movement. He honors the land with authenticity while pushing its visual language into new territory. His new body of work showcases an artist at the height of his powers, offering paintings that are as generous and uplifting as the places that inspire them. True to his roots, Robert lives on a farm in Southern Idaho with his wife, Rebecca, and their six children. Immersed in the Snake River Basin, he is surrounded by the same scenery that first captivated him as a child, and his upbringing continues to drive his desire to share the beauty he sees in nature.
