In IN THE STUDIO: Rocky Hawkins, we visit the artist at his historic ranch in Southwest Montana and step inside a studio filled with color, history, imagery, and experimentation. Hawkins has spent his career pushing against conventional representations of the American West, allowing abstraction and recognizable forms to collide through expressive gestures, fragmented marks, and unexpected color.
The film offers a glimpse into the environment and creative instincts behind Hawkins’ work, and an artist who remains willing to follow a painting into the unknown.

That pursuit of the unknown is at the heart of Hawkins’ newest exhibition, The Mystics: What They Know, opening September 1 at Altamira Fine Art in Jackson Hole.
In this new body of work, Hawkins turns to the archetype of the Mystic; figures searching for truths that exist somewhere beyond easy explanation. Abstraction and figuration move in and out of focus as Hawkins deliberately leaves parts of the story unresolved, asking the viewer to bring their own imagination to what remains hidden.
